Eileen is Grateful

It is indeed a day to be grateful after we've been spared here in Maryland from Hurricane Sandy even though I have a terrible cold.  Lord, help me forget about my own small miseries and lift up all those who are without power or have flooding or who are suffering in any way from the damage this hurricane left in its path. In an effort to be thankful, I am joining up with A Thankful Woman's Blessings.  Just click on this link to participate.

1)  I am grateful that my husband and two daughters were home Monday and Tuesday because of the hurricane.  Yesterday, my cold totally wiped me out and I slept most of the day away.  They played with my six year old and helped take care of him.  I guess with age colds really can wipe me out these days.  I am blessed to be able to have rested when my body needed it.

2)  During the storm, I am so thankful that we did not lose our power.  It went off and on about three times.  Our good friends are without power and I know how hard this can be on a family.

3)  I am thankful that my two daughters have each other.  At the last minute, they decided to rig up a costume and trick-or-treat around the neighborhood tonight.  It is a joy to hear them giggling and laughing together.

4)  My middle schooler said she was grateful for having two days off from school which gave her two extra days to study for her Theology test.

5)  I am grateful for the time my hubby spends with the little one.  It melts my heart when I hear Patrick read to him.

Sabbath Moments

I'm joining Colleen's meme at Sabbath Moments today where we just list peaceful moments we've had where we cease from the craziness of the world.  I have a bad head cold today so understand that my sabbath moments are meant to help me feel physically better.  You will see that I feel quite miserable today.  Here are my sabbath moments:

1)  I took a hot bath because my body had all these aches and pains.  The heat in the bathroom cleared my sinuses up for a little while.

2)  I sat on the back deck with hubby and watched the sunset.  There were many pink clouds and it was good for my cold to get some fresh air.

3)  I planned my lesson for my son's class I will be teaching on Monday.  Hubby was raking the leaves outside with my son and it was nice and peaceful to think about a plan for the class.  My daughter was in her room studying.

Wildlife Wednesday

This is from a couple summers ago.  We had this in our front yard.  Isn't it huge?

This is what we call the 'boyscout path' that my son and I walk on in the warm weather.  We used to walk our dog here too but she recently passed away.  Before long, hopefully we can get another dog.

Patrick would run ahead of me and scare me as I came around the hill.

This leads to the farmer's field.

This is the 'rocky road' beside the farmers field.  We would notice apple trees along the side as the seasons changed.

You can see the apple trees to the right in the distance.

My older son used to jump over these bales of hay doing flips.

The way back.

A Simple Woman's Daybook

I'm participating in A Simple Woman's Daybook today (it's better late than never).

Outside my window....it is sunny, calm, and 70ish in Maryland today.  It is beginning to cloud up a little as evening sets in.

I am thinking....what Halloween costume does my six year old wants this year.  We are studying Egypt and he expressed an interest in being a mummy once.

I am thankful....for the new friendships I've made through homeschooling and at my daughters' Catholic school.

In the kitchen....spaghetti and meatballs.

I am creating....contemplating a book that showcases the books and crafts I've used for my co-op classes.

I am wondering....what gift we should get for a friends birthday party this Sunday.

I am hoping....that I can continue doing my back stretches 10 minutes a day.

I am wearing....jeans and a purple shirt with designs.

I am reading....Founding Brothers by Joseph J. Ellis

I am looking forward to....seeing my two college sons again when they come home to vote in their first election.

Around the house....hubby and son are raking leaves outside while my two daughters are watching t.v. very low.

I am hearing....raking leaves and the t.v. low while the water boils the noodles with the vent fan on.

One of my favorite things....was creating our journal entries at our homeschool co-op today.

A few plans for the rest of the week....drive my daughter to play practice at her school and a sleep over and bring my son to a birthday party for fun, pizza, and cake.

A favorite quote for today...."In addition, the most reliable and recent studies of African tribal culture demonstrated that slavery was a long-standing custom among the Africans themselves, so enslaved Africans in America were simply experiencing a condition here that they would otherwise experience, probably in more oppressive fashion, in their mother country." (Joseph J. Ellis)

Eileen is Grateful

I am joining Judy's meme at A Thankful Woman's Book of Blessings today.  I love thinking back on my week to remember the joyous times the Lord has touched my life.  Just list five things you are thankful for and click the link to join this thankful group of virtuous women.

1)  I am so thankful for my two daughters Catholic school.  The parent-teacher conferences were very good for us to go to and meet the teachers.  They are awesome and really care about their students.  I really enjoyed meeting all of them.  The girls have A's and B's in most all their classes.  My youngest daughter will need help in Math and Latin from my hubby and me.  I will handle the Latin and hubby will help with the Math.  All the other subjects they are excelling in though.

I am also grateful for the Mass and ring ceremony held at the school for the juniors.  My oldest daughter helped with communion at Mass and all the girls looked so nice as they were presented their rings and roses.   Hubby took her out to lunch with the class and I returned home with Patrick because it was a bit expensive for all of us to attend the lunch.

2)  It was such a joy to see my two sons at the University of Maryland football game this past weekend.  My older son had his girlfriend with him.  We enjoyed meatball subs and fried chicken.  Patrick and I also gave the boys some Halloween treats we made for them.  It was a beautiful day in Maryland to be outside with friends and family.

3)  I am grateful for the prayer time we spend together.  On the way to school, my daughters and I say our Morning Offering and one decade of the rosary.  I repeat these prayers with my son when we arrive back home because he sleeps in the car on the way to their school.  Patrick's religion class I teach also wants to learn our Morning Offering.  I am eager to teach it to them.

4)  We are blessed to be able to have a small homeschool co-op with some wonderful families.  I look forward to seeing them every week (and so does Patrick).  Please pray for our efforts in our co-op as it would be good if the children can stay connected through out their homeschooling endeavors.

5)  I am grateful for the simple projects our History curriculum:  Story of the World provides for Patrick.  We just finished making Joseph's coat of many colors and an Egyptian Ziggurat.  I am not a crafty person and the project ideas all seem to be manageable for us.

What are you thankful for this week?
